Discussion Notes on March 18 Programme Committee Meeting

Programme meeting : 18 March 2010 Present : Ian Wright (Delhi), Elaine Grings (Ibadan), Peter, Alan, Wubalem , Bruno (Addis) , Delia (Nairobi)

Day 1 First session: Under control, video from consurtium chair to be shown 9 mins. Ice breaker 'Good' one side of the tent and 'bads' the other side (voting to questions)

Session 2 and 3 (report from Delia) 4 interventions on goods and bads from guests + Mario + theme director Afternoon session: interactive, groups get involvement from everyone and reporting back later in the week. Poeple being 'News reporters' and seek info from key poeple. What about regional perspectives? Introduction of new poeple in the afternoon session Need a more detail timetable for afternoon session. Give TOR to Theme Directors for their interventions. Tedele and Aynalem to take care of introduction of new staff Ask the list of new staff to HR (new staff in regions not always recorded at HR so check with regions)

Session 4 Surprise game. On track

Day 2 Session 1: Development partners session Alan and Shirley met Adrian on Monday OK Azage to identify dvpt partners no feedback yet Ian will contact Adrian Ian to facilitate session Ranjitha and Ian will identify key topics for the discussion Bullet points but no script pre-writen of 3 pairs interactions

Session 2: CG and research partners List of invitees updated, Alan to contact Seyoum Move one of the two sessions elswhere in the programme, are they might be too similar (long boring morning) Moving dvpt partner session first thing on Saturday? Not yet Look at process/format first and rescheduled if needed Need to invite CGIAR partners based on ILRI Addis Campus, invite the heads

Market place No posters received yet but under preparation 12 brown bag sessions, too many? accomodate maximum 15 Propose to delete some bb sessions

Session 1 - Group work Elaine briefed Bridging between first day session and filling the gaps session Important questions -> filling the gaps. Five topics groups (CC, LD, Disease, Social/poverty, Human Nutrition). How do we allocate participants to various groups. No questions developed yet, probably questions developed during first two days? Elaine to contact topic persons and brief them to distil question in their topic area. (Mario, Jan, Jeff, Nancy, ..) No one is yet in charged of the 'filling the gaps' session (Tom not attending APM). Peter and Alan know the game. Elaine does not know the rules. EXPERT=DRAGONS, pitch to be made by pitchers, dragons asked questions to pitchers, then dragons select... Audience to invest as well (mini-dragons) Need to link to two sessions. Joint responsability for both sessions (Elaine + Peter)

Last session 'Have I got news for you' format type session? (Steve, Phil Toye, Derek, Gabriele,...). Need a question master. Note from the note taker 'Too much anglo-saxon cultural influence in this APM'. Is british humor an IPG or IPB (International Public Good... or bad)? Alan sent invitation to a series of poeple but no feedback.... so a more classical wrapping-up session Range of poeple (student science advisor, board, guest) to give their impression of APM. APM film 5 minutes best-of Jean retiring and making some ILRI historical slide show Ice breaker revisited Corporate Yoga Carlos (or board chair) closing remarks (Alan to ask Carlos)
